about

"This is a really good cross-section of the circuits' strengths: wistful, elegant melodies that synthesize warm instruments with crystalline electronic sounds, songs that transform several times into narrative structures, spacious sonic landscapes, complex shapes made with sounds, a wide variety of visceral textures and disparate rhythmic elements accumulating into a swirling clockwork of syncopated and a-symmetric features, the sum of which is a single musical story and a space to stay in. There's a striving always towards the idyllic, the unironically beautiful, but this buoyancy is always cut with a hard line on which the circuits challenge their compositions with inventive and even subtly disorienting orchestrations, or with far-reaching inspirations from sundry cultures and musical styles, with tinkerings in the tempo and the mood, and with novel juxtapositions of dissimilar elements. Their tendency toward soft, soothing vocals against sharp, muscular drum lines to me sets the tone. There's an extreme benevolence in the voice, but the language is complex and challenging. This music belongs somewhere on the food pyramid. I keep it on a thumb drive in my first aid kit. "

Written and recorded in record time in 2015 in Ann Arbor, LA, Montreal, and Toronto.
